How long does Profhilo last?

Six to nine months, with a top-up at month six. The more useful answer requires knowing what Profhilo is and what lasting means for a bio-remodelling treatment vs a filler.

Profhilo is one of the most-asked-about treatments in the clinic. It’s not quite a filler, it’s not quite a skin booster, and the results — when they’re done well — are subtle enough that most people can’t tell you’ve had anything done. So the question we get most often is the simplest one: how long does it actually last?

The honest answer: six to nine months for most patients, after an initial course of two sessions four weeks apart. But the more useful answer requires understanding what Profhilo is, what it does, and why “lasting” means something slightly different here than it does with a traditional dermal filler.

What Profhilo actually is

Profhilo is pure, ultra-pure hyaluronic acid (HA) — no cross-linking, no added ingredients, no lift effect like a structural filler. It’s a bio-remodelling injectable: rather than adding volume to a specific area, it spreads through the dermis after injection and acts as a long-acting stimulator of your own collagen and elastin production.

That’s why it sits in its own category. A dermal filler is doing structural work — restoring a hollow under the eye, adding projection to a chin, building cheek support. Profhilo is doing tissue work — improving the underlying quality of the skin itself: hydration, firmness, surface smoothness, the kind of glow that’s hard to fake with skincare alone.

The first six weeks: what actually happens

Profhilo is delivered in two sessions, four weeks apart. We use the standard BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) injection protocol — five precisely placed injection points per side of the face — which is what allows the product to spread evenly without creating lumps or visible product.

You’ll see something almost immediately: a soft, hydrated quality to the skin in the first 24-48 hours, as the HA pulls water into the dermis. But the real result builds over the following six to eight weeks as collagen and elastin production kicks in. It’s a slow reveal, not a sudden change — which is exactly the point.

How long the results actually last

After your second session at week four, you’re looking at peak effect around weeks six to eight, and a gradual taper from there. Most patients return for a single top-up session at the six-month mark to maintain the result. Some clients with very stable, lower-maintenance skin can stretch this to nine months.

What you’ll notice declining first isn’t the structure (Profhilo isn’t doing structural work) — it’s the surface quality. The lit-from-within glow softens, the surface smoothness starts to relax. It’s gradual enough that you may not consciously notice it; what you’ll notice is that you’ve started looking at your skin in the mirror more critically again. That’s your prompt for a top-up.

What affects how long it lasts

Three things drive the longevity range:

  • Age and baseline collagen. Younger skin (mid-30s to mid-40s) typically holds the result longer because the underlying collagen response is more robust. Skin in its 50s and 60s benefits beautifully from Profhilo, but may want a four-month rather than six-month top-up cadence.
  • Lifestyle. Sun exposure, smoking, alcohol, and dehydration all break down the HA framework faster. SPF every day, drinking water consistently, and a good skincare routine genuinely extend results.
  • What you’re combining it with. Profhilo layers brilliantly alongside Sunekos (which adds amino acids to drive a deeper response) and microneedling (which mechanically stimulates collagen). A layered programme usually outperforms Profhilo alone, both in immediate result and in longevity.

Profhilo isn’t a filler — please don’t expect it to act like one

The most common reason patients are disappointed with Profhilo is that they expected it to do filler work. Profhilo will not restore lost volume in the cheeks. It will not project the chin or jaw. It will not lift a heavy mid-face.

What it will do is make whatever underlying structure you have look fresher, more hydrated, and more elastic — and that effect compounds over a course of treatments. If you need structural restoration, that’s a conversation about dermal fillers, not Profhilo. Often the answer is a combination of both, sequenced thoughtfully.

Is Profhilo right for you?

Profhilo tends to suit patients who:

  • Are starting to notice skin quality changes (looser, drier, less radiant) but aren’t ready for or interested in fillers
  • Want a result that builds slowly and looks natural — friends might compliment your skin without knowing why
  • Have already invested in good skincare and want a treatment that amplifies what they’re doing at home
  • Have realistic expectations: this is maintenance and quality, not transformation

If you’re in your late 20s and have great skin already, Profhilo may not give you a result you can see — you simply don’t need it yet. If you’re past 60 with significant volume loss, Profhilo alone won’t address what’s actually bothering you; we’d plan a combined approach.

The takeaway

Plan for two sessions four weeks apart, full result visible by week six to eight, and a single top-up around the six-month mark. From £325 per session at Omorphia. We’ll always talk through whether Profhilo is the right tool for what you’re actually trying to achieve — sometimes it isn’t, and we’d rather tell you that than book you in.
